BUILDING MAINTENANCE -
WEATHERIZATION INSTRUCTOR
WORKFORCE
DEVELOPMENT
Northern
Manhattan Improvement Corporation (NMIC) is seeking a Building
Maintenance/Weatherization Instructor.
NMIC’s Workforce Development programs (WFD) prepare and train the
workforce, and help employers meet their staffing needs with a pool of
screened and qualified candidates.
Job seekers are assisted with resume preparation, interviewing
skills, job search techniques and job placement services in addition to
case management and referral to other needed services such as skills
training, child care, housing, mental health, etc. Employers work with designated job
developers and receive individualized assistance in addressing their
staffing needs. The Building
Maintenance/Weatherization Instructor is responsible for researching, developing and
delivering new training curriculum and daily lesson plans conducive to
building solid knowledge of the energy efficiency retrofit and
weatherization field among students.
At the completion of the training, students will be prepared to
advance to technical training programs in pursuit of becoming BPI
certified professionals. Duties
associated with the position include Research curricula and
develop curriculum for NMIC’s Building Maintenance and Energy Efficiency
Retrofit/Weatherization training program. Prepare training materials and
deliver daily lesson plans. Develop and administer industry-recognized
skills assessment and testing tools to measure student progress. Develop job readiness training modules
for green-collar workforce. Liaise
with AEA training staff to ensure that curriculum is effective and
conducive to advancement to AEA technical training programs. Applicants
must have prior experience in energy efficiency retrofit and
weatherization field as an instructor or in related capacities. Excellent presentation and delivery
skills required. Understand
overall Weatherization techniques, home safety issues, and energy
conservation concepts Must be a
self-starter and able to work without immediate supervision Strong interpersonal, and verbal and
written communication skills.
Carpentry skills, knowledge of heating systems, boilers and
construction field preferred.
Bilingual skills in English/Spanish preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
PARALEGAL
LEGAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT
Northern Manhattan
Improvement Corporation (NMIC) seeks an experienced paralegal to join its
Legal Services Department to provide advocacy and assistance to
clients. NMIC’s Legal Services
Program provides free civil legal services to the residents of Washington
Heights/Inwood and the surrounding communities of upper Manhattan. Services are provided on a walk-in
basis and are central to helping families and individuals maintain housing
and economic security. Paralegals at NMIC currently provide assistance
to: 1) tenants and tenant associations to secure stable and safe housing
accommodations and avoid eviction; 2) clients in need of public
assistance benefits and navigating the benefits system; 3) local
residents facing consumer debt issues, and 4) victims of domestic
violence in both immigration and family law issues. Historically, we have
taken on law suits in the areas of childhood protection from lead paint
poisoning; domestic violence, fair and equal access to benefits such as
public assistance, food stamps and disability payments, enforcement of
housing maintenance standards; access to emergency benefits upon
application at city job centers; and the safeguarding of constitutional
rights of tenants in housing court.
Duties include responsibility for providing legal assistance to
clients and ensuring client records, develop and maintain expertise in a
substantive area of specialty as well as assist the attorney staff in
screening and intake. Applicants who can provide training,
support staff, update and maintain NMIC’s legal resources database,
monitor any applicable listservs, and create and maintain materials for
pro se litigants are encouraged to apply. Applicants should possess
experience with housing court procedures and rent regulation protections
or should have relevant experience in landlord-tenant, housing, benefits
and/or consumer debt issues. Candidates should possess at a minimum an
AA/AS, BA/BS, or Paralegal Certificate and 2(+) years experience
providing direct legal services or similar background. Skilled in use of
MS Excel and Word preferred.
Bilingual English/Spanish both verbal and written HIGHLY
PREFERRED.
CASE MANAGER
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
Northern Manhattan
Improvement Corporation is seeking two Case Managers for its Workforce
Development Program. Candidates
will provide job readiness assistance and case management services to
public assistance recipients and applicants in the Back to Work
program. Responsibilities
include: managing a caseload of 75-100 clients; conducting orientation,
intake and assessments; developing individualized service plans and
formulating action plans to facilitate and monitor the progress of
clients towards accessing needed services and reaching their employment
goals. The Case Managers will
identify community resources and create linkages to child care services,
mental health counseling, medical care, and housing. Other responsibilities include follow
up, administrative functions, timely record keeping and quality assurance
for compliance with the requirements of the auditing agency. ~
Applicants should possess a
Bachelors degree. An Associate degree with 4+ years of case management
experience in Workforce Development will be considered. Excellent organizational and
interpersonal skills are required; must have strong communications and
computer skills. Experience with working with low income job seekers;
proven experience accessing and linking clients to social service resources;
proven ability to work as part of a team; strong writing and computer
skills in Microsoft applications; ability to multi-task, prioritize and
meet deadlines. Fluency in
English/Spanish (verbal/written) REQUIRED.
JOB DEVELOPER
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
Northern Manhattan
Improvement Corporation (NMIC) seeks experienced Job Developer to join
its Employment Services and Placement Program in our Workforce
Development Department. Duties
include working closely with the project’s case manager and job readiness
instructor to achieve program outcomes.
Responsibilities will include: 1) assessing participants’
employability and tracking their progress in obtaining employment by
submitting case notes documenting participants’ attitudes towards
employment, ability to attend interviews and outcomes of employment
efforts; 2) helping participants develop or update their resumes; 3)
sending participants on job interviews; and 4) developing linkages with
companies throughout New York City that have appropriate job openings; 5)
developing permanent jobs for public assistance recipients and other
low-income job seekers in employment and job training programs; 6)
working with other the job development staff to develop and share job
leads. ~ Successful
applicants should have a 1) Bachelors degree with two or more years of
job development and placement experience with hard-to-serve populations;
an Associate degree will be considered with significant years of job
development experience in a workforce development department; 2) active
job bank with a variety of entry-level and skilled positions; 3)
bilingual in English and Spanish preferred; 4) excellent communication
and presentation skills; 5) computer proficiency; 6) flexibility and
ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
and 7) strong time management and organizational skills.
